Getting started

What is Truck & Bus Theory Ireland for?

Truck & Bus Theory Ireland is an independent study app for the Irish Driver Theory Test for professional drivers: category C (trucks), category D (buses and coaches), the combined CD test, the truck and bus module tests, and the Driver CPC case-study test for each licence.

What happened to Bus Theory Prep Ireland?

Bus Theory Prep Ireland never reached the stores. Its category D content, case studies and passenger guides are part of Truck & Bus Theory Ireland, alongside the truck material, so there is one app to install for either licence or both.

Is it official?

No. Truck & Bus Theory Ireland is an independent study application. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by the Road Safety Authority (RSA) or Prometric. Practice questions are independently authored and are not official Driver Theory Test questions.

Do I need an account?

No. The app has no account system and no TritonApps study-data backend. Your answer history, settings and reminders stay on your device.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Questions, signs and explanations are stored on your device, so studying works without a connection. An internet connection is needed only to make or restore a purchase and to receive content updates.

Truck, bus or both

During setup the app asks which test you are sitting next — truck, bus, or both licences. The subject areas, questions, mocks, readiness and case studies then follow that choice.

You can switch at any time from the Home tab (Change test) or from Settings. Progress on questions the two licences share carries across, so switching does not throw away work you have already done.

Study modes

The Study area is built around different revision needs rather than one fixed flow.

Mock tests and case studies

How is a mock built?

A full category C or category D mock is 100 questions in 120 minutes, with a pass mark of 74 out of 100, matching the published shape of the real test. The truck and bus module tests are each 40 questions in 45 minutes with a pass mark of 30, and the combined CD paper is 140 questions in 180 minutes with a pass mark of 104, drawn from both full banks.

Category C questions are drawn across seven subject areas: Drivers’ Hours and Records, Vehicle Technical, Loads and Weights, Vehicle Handling, Road Safety and Risk, Legal and Documentation, and Health and Environment. Category D questions are drawn across Passengers, Drivers’ Hours and Records, Passenger Safety and Emergencies, Vehicle Handling, Vehicle Technical, Operations and Regulation, and Road Safety and Risk.

What is Stamina mode?

Stamina mode removes the pause button from a mock, the way the real paper works, so you find out whether concentration over the full sitting is your limit.

Is there a per-section pass mark?

No, and the app deliberately does not imply one. The Driver Theory Test has a single overall pass mark. Your results screen breaks performance down by area so you can see where marks are going, but no area has its own threshold.

Can I review wrong answers?

Yes. After a mock you can review every question with its explanation, and bookmark anything you want to return to.

How are the Driver CPC case studies marked?

The Driver CPC case-study test is three case studies of 15 questions each. To pass you need at least 5 in each case study and at least 28 out of 45 overall, and the app marks every practice paper on both conditions. There are 45 scenarios in all: 19 that apply to both licences, 13 for trucks and 13 for buses.

Passenger guides

Passengers is the largest subject area of the category D test, so the app includes four passenger guides: accessibility and mobility, emergencies and evacuation, difficult situations, and school transport. Accessibility and mobility and school transport are free; the other two come with the bus unlock.

Signs, tachograph and glossary

The Signs Trainer covers 87 Irish road signs — the regulatory, warning, information, motorway and roadworks signs a category C or D candidate meets — with a browsable reference, a detail view for each sign, and a drill mode. Signs are drawn from data rather than photographed, so they stay sharp at any size and in both light and dark mode.

The tachograph trainer has 20 symbol, pictogram and chart questions and is free in full.

The glossary gives 43 plain-English definitions of the terms that cost marks — the wording the test uses that candidates most often misread.

Readiness

The Progress area shows a readiness view once you have answered 250 questions for the test you are sitting. Below that threshold the app shows your progress toward the threshold rather than a score, because an early flattering number is misleading.

Readiness is based on your recent accuracy weighted by how many marks each area carries in the real test, plus how much of the bank you have covered. It is a study aid. It is not a prediction of your result, and the app does not claim it is.

Study reminders

Study reminders are optional and are scheduled locally on your device. Notification permission is only requested when you explicitly enable reminders. There is no notification backend.

If reminders do not appear, check that notifications are allowed for Truck & Bus Theory Ireland in your device settings.

Truck and bus unlocks, and restore

How does the free version work?

The free version gives you 55 practice questions for each licence, Learn mode, one quick test and a 10-question mock preview, so you can judge the app before paying. Two passenger guides, the tachograph trainer, signs browse, the glossary, the Driver CPC guide, the test-day guide and reminders are free in full.

What do the unlocks include?

Truck and bus are unlocked separately, so you only pay for the licence you are going for. Each unlock adds that licence’s complete question bank, unlimited mocks including its module test, its Driver CPC case-study papers, Smart Review and the other targeted modes, the signs drill, full readiness tracking and a test-date countdown. The bus unlock also adds the other two passenger guides. The combined CD paper needs both unlocks.

What does an unlock cost?

Each unlock is a one-time purchase of €14.99, not a subscription, and future content updates are included. The price in your own currency is shown in the app and on your store's product page.

How do I restore a purchase?

Open Settings and use Restore purchases. This re-checks your entitlement for the store account signed in on that device.

Will a purchase move between iPhone and Android?

Not automatically. The app has no account system, so a purchase made on the App Store is not visible to Google Play, or the other way round.

Refunds

Refunds are handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play, not by TritonApps directly. If you need help finding the correct store flow, email us and we will point you in the right direction.

Accuracy and sources

Questions are written against primary sources — the Rules of the Road, the Traffic Signs Manual, and Irish road traffic legislation — rather than copied from anywhere. The app includes a Sources screen listing what each part of the bank was written from.

Road traffic law changes. Where a rule is liable to change, the app records when it was last checked and the content is reviewed against the legislation before each release. If you believe something is out of date, please report it — that feedback is genuinely useful.

Reporting a question

If you use Report a problem on a question, the app opens a draft in your email client with the question reference included. Nothing is sent unless you choose to send that email yourself.

Troubleshooting

My progress disappeared after reinstalling

Study progress is stored locally on your device. Deleting the app removes local study history and settings. Purchases can be restored, but local progress cannot, because there is no account or cloud sync.

An unlock is still locked after paying

Try Restore purchases from Settings while connected to the internet, and check you are signed in to the same store account you paid with. If the issue remains, email support with your device type, platform, and what happened.

I am not getting reminders

Make sure reminders are enabled inside the app and that your device allows notifications for Truck & Bus Theory Ireland. On Android, also check that battery optimisation is not suppressing them.

I found a content issue

Please use the in-app reporting option where possible, so the question reference is included in your email draft.

Privacy and local data

Details of how the app handles data are in the Privacy Policy. The short version: no account, no study-data backend, no location, no microphone, no contacts, no camera, and progress stays on your device. Purchases are processed by the app stores and entitlement access is managed via RevenueCat.
