Ten skills

A free game in every one of them.

Every skill carries its own level from 0 to 100, and the Braintide Score is simply the average of the ten. At least one game in each skill is free forever, so the whole of your brain can be trained without paying anything.

  • Memory Recall · Dual N-Back, Memory Match
  • Attention Focus · Stroop
  • Processing speed Speed · Reaction Grid
  • Problem solving Logic · Pattern Matrix
  • Language Words · Spell It Back, Word Pairs
  • Flexibility Switch · Task Switch
  • Numeracy Math · Mental Math, Percent Sense
  • Spatial Space · Set It Straight
  • Coordination Motor · Steady Hand, On the Mark
  • Listening Hearing · Sound Sweeps

Daily workout

Three games a day, chosen by what you have neglected.

The workout picks the skills you have left longest, so nothing goes stale. It takes about six minutes, and you can set it to three, four or five games. Every skill has its own level, and the difficulty follows you rather than staying where you started.

  • A ten-game warm-up, about seven minutes, sets your starting level in each skill.
  • The engine holds you near the edge of what you can do, at roughly 78% success.
  • Your streak survives one missed day and ends on two, and the home screen says so.
The Today screen: the daily workout card with Mental Math, Task Switch and Steady Hand, then XP level, best streak and games played

The checkpoint

A benchmark that does not move.

Here is the problem every brain trainer has and few of them mention: an adaptive engine moves the difficulty to keep you near 78% success. That is right for training and useless for measuring. Your score hovers while the difficulty climbs underneath it.

So Braintide has a checkpoint. The same ten short games, at the same fixed difficulty, every fourteen days, never fed back into your levels. It is the only figure in the app that can honestly be compared with last time, and it says so.

Every other score in Braintide comes from a game that adjusts to you, which makes it useless for comparing one week with the next. This does not change your levels, and it will feel easy. That is the point.

Progress

Ten skills. One honest picture.

A radar of all ten skills, a level and trend for each, and insights written as plain sentences about your own history: which skill is climbing, which has gone stale, what today’s workout will favour because of it.

  • Achievements in five families: habit, volume, precision, mastery and breadth.
  • A weekly report with rounds, minutes, skills covered and consistency.
  • Training focus: rotate across every skill, work on your weakest, or pick one.
The weekly report: 26 rounds, 36 minutes, 9 of 10 skills, 67% consistency, above per-skill level cards
A round summary: score 100 in Reaction Grid, 24 of 24 correct, average reply 453 milliseconds, plus 158 XP

Origins

Every task says where it came from.

Each game opens with a brief: how to play in three steps, the task it descends from, and a sentence on what the skill actually is. Stroop from the Stroop task. Sequence Recall from Corsi block-tapping. Dual N-Back from dual n-back, with two independent streams rather than one.

Nothing is dressed up as science it is not. Braintide trains focus and memory for fun, and it says so on the screen where every other app makes a promise.

The Stroop brief: Attention, level 71, how to play in three steps, descended from the Stroop task
The Dual N-Back brief: Memory, level 66, how to play, and a note that working memory is the small amount of information you can hold in mind and use right now

Eight ways to answer

More than tapping.

Most brain trainers are a tap and a swipe. Braintide asks you to tap, flick, drag, draw, turn a dial, spell a word from letter tiles, type a number, and, in five games, make a sound. Three games have no options at all: Set It Straight and Wind Back are scored on how many degrees off you were, On the Mark on how many milliseconds.

  • Tap
  • Flick
  • Drag
  • Draw
  • Turn a dial
  • Spell
  • Type a number
  • Make a sound

What Braintide will not do

No number it would have to invent.

Every figure in the app compares you with your own history. Braintide has no data about other people, and a made-up comparison would be worse than none. It says exactly that, on the screen where every other app would show you one.

No percentile

No “top 12% for your age”. There is no population to be in the top 12% of.

No brain age

A number that sounds like a diagnosis and is not one. Braintide is a game, not a health measure.

No ranking against other players

No leaderboard, no friends list, no account to attach one to. Your only opponent is last week.

The What these numbers mean card on Progress: every figure here compares you to your own history; Braintide deliberately shows no percentile or age ranking

Built to fit how you play

Read in twelve languages. Playable by more eyes and hands.

Twelve languages, all the way down

Every game’s name and rules, the achievement names, even the reminder. Switch language and your progress is untouched.

A colour-safe palette

Ten games ask you to tell two colours apart. One switch swaps in a set chosen to stay distinct for red-green and blue-yellow colour vision, checked by simulation rather than by eye, and it changes the board straight away, mid-round if you are in one.

Zen mode and Reduce Motion

Zen eases the clocks right off. Zen rounds still count towards your streak, XP and achievements, but not towards your levels, because those are measured against the clock. Reduce Motion is honoured everywhere.

Reminders and sound, on your terms

An optional daily nudge, scheduled on your device with no server behind it. Short cues for right, wrong and finishing a round, which never play through the silent switch and never interrupt a podcast.

Local-first

Yours, and actually yours.

There is no Braintide account, no login, no cloud, no analytics and no advertising. Every round you play is written to a database on your own device and stays there.

  • Works completely offline. No account, ever.
  • No ads, on any plan.
  • Export every round you have played to a JSON file in one tap, written on your device and handed straight to your share sheet.
  • The five games that listen read how loud the room is, and nothing else. Nothing is recorded, kept or recognised. Read the privacy policy.
  • Nothing is sold on.

Questions

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes, completely. There is no server to reach. The only network call the app ever makes is to confirm a Pro purchase with the store, and that only if you buy one.

Why does my score hover while the games get harder?

Because the engine is holding you near 78% success on purpose, which is the right place to train. That is exactly why the checkpoint exists: the same ten games at a fixed difficulty, every fourteen days, so two results can be compared.

Why is there no percentile or brain age?

Braintide has no data about other people, so any percentile it showed would be invented. Every figure in the app compares you with your own history, and the Progress screen says so in as many words.

What does the microphone hear?

How loud the room is: one number, about sixty times a second, and only while one of the five voice games is on screen. There is no speech recognition anywhere in the app. Nothing is recorded, kept or transmitted, and voice games stay out of the daily workout unless you turn them on.

Can I get my data out?

Yes. The Profile screen writes your entire history to a JSON file and hands it to your share sheet. Deleting the app deletes everything, because everything is on the device.

Is this a medical app?

No. Braintide is a game. It trains focus and memory for fun and makes no claim to diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. It is rated suitable for ages 4 and over.
