This Privacy Policy explains what personal data Car & Bike Theory Ireland, previously named Car Theory Prep Ireland (the App), processes, why it is processed, who it is shared with, how long it is kept, and what rights you have. The App is published by TritonApps (we, us), an independent studio based in the Republic of Ireland. We act as the data controller for personal data processed through the App.
Car & Bike Theory Ireland is designed to keep as much data as possible on your device. There is no account system and no TritonApps study-data backend for the App. Your category BW and AM study data never leaves your device in normal use.
1. Who we are
The App is published by TritonApps, based in the Republic of Ireland. For privacy matters, email privacy@tritonapps.com. For general support, email support@tritonapps.com.
2. What we process and why
2.1 Study data and settings
- Answer history, progress, mastery and review scheduling, mock results, bookmarks, your test date, daily target, reminder preferences and settings are stored locally on your device in an on-device database.
- There is no TritonApps account for the App and no cloud sync for this study data.
- We do not receive a copy of that local study data through the normal use of the App.
2.2 Reminder scheduling
- If you enable study reminders, the App requests notification permission and schedules local notifications on your device only.
- There is no push-notification backend and no remote reminder service run by TritonApps for the App.
2.3 Reporting a question or issue
- When you use the App's report flow, the App can open a draft email in your mail client with contextual details about the question or issue.
- Nothing is sent to TritonApps unless you choose to send that email yourself.
2.4 Purchases and entitlement checks
- The App uses RevenueCat to manage the anonymous entitlement state for the separate one-time car and motorcycle lifetime purchases.
- RevenueCat assigns an anonymous app-user identifier. It is not linked by us to your name, email address or any account, because the App has no account system.
- Purchases themselves are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play under their own privacy policies.
- We do not receive or store your payment-card details.
2.5 Content updates
- The App can download over-the-air content and code updates from Expo Application Services (EAS), so that a corrected question or a change in the law can reach you without a store release.
- This request carries technical information needed to serve the right update, such as your App version and platform. It does not carry your study data.
2.6 What the App does not request
The App does not request location, microphone, contacts, or camera access.
2.7 Advertising and tracking
We do not use a TritonApps advertising SDK, a third-party analytics SDK, or a cross-app tracking system in the App. We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. If our data-processing practices materially change, this policy will be updated before release.
3. Third parties and sub-processors
The App depends on the following third parties for limited functions:
- RevenueCat — used to manage anonymous entitlement state for the car and motorcycle lifetime purchases.
- Apple App Store / Google Play — used to process purchases and store restore information under their own policies.
- Expo Application Services — used to deliver over-the-air content and code updates.
- Your email provider / mail client — used only if you choose to send an email report from the App.
These third parties act under their own privacy terms where applicable. We do not use an App account backend for study progress.
4. How long data is kept
Local study data, settings and reminder preferences remain on your device until you remove them, clear the App, or uninstall the App. Because this data is local-first, TritonApps does not hold a normal server-side copy of it.
Purchase records held by Apple, Google, or RevenueCat are retained according to their own operational and legal requirements.
5. Your rights
If the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, you may have the right to:
- access personal data we hold about you,
- ask for inaccurate data to be corrected,
- ask for data to be erased,
- object to or restrict certain processing,
- receive personal data in a portable format where applicable, and
- lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority, including the Irish Data Protection Commission.
6. How to exercise your rights
Because the App is local-first, you control your study data directly on your device. The App's Settings screen includes a reset option, and deleting the App removes local study history from that device.
For privacy requests involving data processed through third-party services such as RevenueCat, email privacy@tritonapps.com and we will review the request and help route it where appropriate.
7. Children's data
The App is intended for people preparing for the Irish Driver Theory Test and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly seek to collect personal data from children through an account system, because the App does not provide one.
8. International transfers
Some third parties used by the App, including RevenueCat, Expo and the app stores, may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where applicable, those providers are responsible for using appropriate transfer mechanisms under their own privacy programmes.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that materially affects your rights or our processing, we will update the effective date above and revise the published policy before release or before the changed processing takes effect.
