What is Car & Bike Theory Ireland for?

Car & Bike Theory Ireland is an independent study app for two Irish Driver Theory Tests: category BW for car, tractor and work-vehicle candidates, and category AM for moped and motorcycle candidates. They have the same 40-question format but different banks and category-specific material.

What happened to Motorcycle Theory Prep Ireland?

After App Review rejected the separate Car and Motorcycle apps under guideline 4.3(a), development moved to one combined product in Car’s existing app identity. The standalone Motorcycle repository and its store, EAS and RevenueCat records remain preserved for history and support; the combined release has not yet been accepted or published.

Is it official?

No. Car & Bike Theory Ireland is an independent study application. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by the Road Safety Authority (RSA) or Prometric. Practice questions are independently authored and are not official Driver Theory Test questions.

Do I need an account?

No. The app has no account system and no TritonApps study-data backend. Your answer history, settings and reminders stay on your device.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Questions, signs and explanations are stored on your device, so studying works without a connection. An internet connection is needed only to make or restore a purchase and to receive content updates.

Car or motorcycle

Choose category BW or AM during setup. You can switch later from Home or Settings, and the questions, subject labels, mocks, readiness and guidance change with it.

There is no combined BW+AM paper in the real Driver Theory Test, so the app does not invent one. Shared road-law and signs questions can carry one mastery history across both categories; category-specific results stay scoped to the test you sat.

Study modes

The Study area is built around different revision needs rather than one fixed flow.

• Learn — work through an area at your own pace, with the explanation after each answer. Free.
• Quick 10 — ten questions mixing what is due, what is weak and what you have not seen. Free.
• Smart Review — the questions your answers say you are most likely to get wrong next. Part of that category’s lifetime unlock.
• Questions you got wrong — everything you answered incorrectly last time round. Part of that category’s lifetime unlock.
• Not yet seen — questions you have never been asked. Part of that category’s lifetime unlock.
• Bookmarked — the questions you flagged to come back to. Part of that category’s lifetime unlock.
• Recently updated — questions changed by the latest content update. Part of that category’s lifetime unlock.

Mock tests

How is a mock built?

A full category BW or AM mock is 40 questions in 45 minutes, with a pass mark of 35 out of 40. Each draws from its own five subject areas and question bank. There is no mixed-category mock.

Is there a per-section pass mark?

No, and the app deliberately does not imply one. The Driver Theory Test has a single overall pass mark. Your results screen breaks performance down by area so you can see where marks are going, but no area has its own threshold.

Can I review wrong answers?

Yes. After a mock you can review every question with its explanation, and bookmark anything you want to return to.

Signs Trainer and glossary

The Signs Trainer covers the regulatory, warning, information, motorway and roadworks signs candidates meet, with a browsable reference, a detail view for each sign, and a drill mode. Signs are drawn from data rather than photographed, so they stay sharp at any size and in both light and dark mode.

The glossary gives plain-English definitions of the terms that cost marks — the wording the test uses that candidates most often misread.

Readiness

The Progress area shows a readiness view once you have answered enough questions for it to mean anything. Below that threshold the app shows your progress toward the threshold rather than a score, because an early flattering number is misleading.

Readiness is based on your recent accuracy weighted by how many marks each area carries in the real test, plus how much of the bank you have covered. It is a study aid. It is not a prediction of your result, and the app does not claim it is.

Study reminders

Study reminders are optional and are scheduled locally on your device. Notification permission is only requested when you explicitly enable reminders. There is no notification backend.

If reminders do not appear, check that notifications are allowed for Car & Bike Theory Ireland in your device settings.

Rider guides

Category AM includes rider-specific guidance on Initial Basic Training, the licence path from AM through A1, A2 and A, protective equipment and rider checks. These are not shown as car guidance, and the car-specific EDT and test-purpose material remains under BW.

Car and motorcycle unlocks, and restore

How does the free version work?

The free version gives you a set allowance of practice questions in each category, one quick test, and a preview of a full mock, so you can judge both paths before paying.

How do the unlocks work?

Car and motorcycle are separate one-time purchases, not subscriptions. Buying one unlocks only that category; owning both unlocks both. Prices are shown in the app and on your store’s product page, in your own currency.

Does my existing Car purchase still work?

Yes. Car’s existing app identity and lifetime product survive the merge, and legacy Car premium access maps to the BW unlock.

Does a standalone Motorcycle Theory Prep purchase move across?

No automatic transfer is possible. Apple, Google and RevenueCat products belong to a specific app record, and the old Motorcycle product cannot be transferred into Car’s app record. Keep the original app installed and contact support if you need help with the historical purchase or refund route.

How do I restore a purchase?

Open Settings and use Restore purchases. This re-checks your entitlement for the store account signed in on that device.

Will a purchase move between iPhone and Android?

Not automatically. The app has no account system, so a purchase made on the App Store is not visible to Google Play, or the other way round.

Refunds

Refunds are handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play, not by TritonApps directly. If you need help finding the correct store flow, email us and we will point you in the right direction.

Accuracy and sources

Questions are written against primary sources — the Rules of the Road, the Traffic Signs Manual, and Irish road traffic legislation — rather than copied from anywhere. The app includes a Sources screen listing what each part of the bank was written from.

Road traffic law changes. Where a rule is liable to change, the app records when it was last checked and the content is reviewed against the legislation before each release. If you believe something is out of date, please report it — that feedback is genuinely useful.

Reporting a question

If you use Report a problem on a question, the app opens a draft in your email client with the question reference included. Nothing is sent unless you choose to send that email yourself.

Troubleshooting

My progress disappeared after reinstalling

Study progress is stored locally on your device. Deleting the app removes local study history and settings. Purchases can be restored, but local progress cannot, because there is no account or cloud sync.

An unlock is still locked after paying

Try Restore purchases from Settings while connected to the internet, and check you are signed in to the same store account you paid with. If the issue remains, email support with your device type, platform, and what happened.

I am not getting reminders

Make sure reminders are enabled inside the app and that your device allows notifications for Car & Bike Theory Ireland. On Android, also check that battery optimisation is not suppressing them.

I found a content issue

Please use the in-app reporting option where possible, so the question reference is included in your email draft.

Privacy and local data

Details of how the app handles data are in the Privacy Policy. The short version: no account, no study-data backend, no location, no microphone, no contacts, no camera, and progress stays on your device. Purchases are processed by the app stores and entitlement access is managed via RevenueCat.
