v1.3.0 — 7 September 2026
A much better Panel by Panel. A new panel detector, trained on Western comic pages, finds panels on far more pages than before — full-bleed art, borderless digital layouts and busy grids included. It runs entirely on your device.
- Every panel, in order — wide strips are shown full width and centred instead of leaving the page where it was, and grids are read row by row. Blank margins are no longer mistaken for panels.
- Controls you can reach — tap the sides to step back and forward, tap the top of the screen for the controls, or swipe down to show them and up to hide them. A short drag counts as a tap.
- Guides for every way of reading — the first time you open a reading mode, a one-screen guide shows its gestures. Bring it back from How Controls Work in the reader menu, or under Settings → Gesture Guides.
- Covers and splash pages are still shown whole, and PDFs now report their page count correctly in Panel by Panel.
v1.2.1 — August 2026
- Panel by Panel now works with PDFs — the same one-panel-at-a-time reading you already had for CBZ, CBR and CBT.
- Sharper panel detection on black-and-white line art, pages with a textured background, full-bleed art and unusually wide pages.
- Fixed light text on a light background in some reader menus.
- Pages the reader prepares from a PDF now count towards your storage limit, and are removed when you delete a comic.
v1.2.0 — August 2026
Panel by Panel. A fourth way to read: TritonPanels finds the panels on a page and takes you through them one at a time, each one filling the screen. No pinching, no hunting for the next balloon — tap the right edge to move on, the left edge to go back, and double tap whenever you want to see the whole page again.
- Panel detection runs on your device — it reads the gutters on the page itself, so it works on the comics you already own and nothing is uploaded anywhere.
- Reading direction — left-to-right or right-to-left, so manga steps through in the right order.
- Falls back gracefully — on a full-bleed splash page with no gutters to find, you simply get the whole page.
- Panel by Panel sits alongside single page, double-page spreads and continuous scroll in the reader’s View Mode menu, and can be set as your default in Settings.
v1.1.0 — 31 July 2026
Google Drive now asks for less. TritonPanels used to request read access to your whole Drive. It doesn’t any more.
- Choosing comics from Google Drive now happens in Google’s own file picker, and TritonPanels only ever receives the files you pick there.
- The app no longer requests a restricted Drive scope, so there is nothing in your Drive it could read without you choosing it first.
- Dropbox and OneDrive are unchanged.
v1.0.0 — 15 July 2026
The first release of TritonPanels. A premium comic reader for iPhone, iPad and Android, built around the library you already own.
- Reader — single page, double-page spreads and continuous scroll; page-curl, slide or no animation; pinch-zoom, brightness, keep-awake and a thumbnail strip.
- Library — grid and list views, collections, reading lists, tags, favourites, filters and search.
- Cloud storage — connect Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive and read your comics in place, or import files directly from your device.
- Formats — CBZ, CBR, PDF, CBT and CB7, with
ComicInfo.xmlmetadata. - Reading tools — offline downloads, bookmarks, per-page notes, reading progress and stats.
- Comfort — light and dark themes, no ads, anonymised diagnostics.
