Five wrong answers, total
The pass mark is 35 of 40 — 87.5%. There is no per-topic threshold to clear separately, which is simpler than the professional and instructor tests, but the single number is unforgiving. Your entire error budget is five questions.
What this does to practice scores. Scoring 80% in practice feels like a comfortable pass. It is a fail. Scoring 88% is a pass by one mark, on one sample of questions, which is close enough to chance that it should not be treated as ready. Aim for 38 or better, consistently, before you book.
Why margin matters more here
Every practice test is a sample. If you genuinely know 90% of the material, a forty-question sample will still land you at 34 sometimes, purely on which questions came up. The way to stop that mattering is to raise the underlying knowledge, not to keep re-rolling the sample until a good score appears.
A practical rule: your booking decision should be based on your worst recent full mock, not your best.
The result report
At the end of the test a pass or fail appears on screen immediately, and you receive a report showing the category areas where you answered questions correctly and incorrectly.
After a fail, that report is the most valuable thing you leave with. It converts "I failed" into "I lost marks in managing risk and legal matters", which is an actionable revision plan rather than a mood.
After a fail
There is no limit on attempts. It is strongly advised to wait at least three complete business days before re-sitting, to give yourself time to revise.
Use that time narrowly. The instinct after a fail is to start again from the beginning, which spends most of the effort on material you already answered correctly. Work the two weakest areas from the report, then take a full mock to confirm the rest has not gone stale.
A readiness test
- Three consecutive full 40-question mocks at 38 or above.
- No single topic area repeatedly costing you marks.
- For your last ten wrong answers, you can say why the right answer is right — not just which one it was.
The third is the one that separates candidates who pass first time from candidates who have memorised a question bank. Recognition is not knowledge, and the real test will show you a phrasing you have not seen.
